Organizers, Paris Photo
It is only recently that Europeans have begun to collect photography, and yet this art is now attracting an ever-widening and fascinated audience made up of both the curious and the convinced.
Paris Photo has become a major force in this process and a market event of reference. Its mission, year after year, is to challenge the eye, awaken desire and a sense of astonishment, foster knowledge and generally promote the art of photography in all its diversity.
This year, from November 18-21, Paris Photo will bring together under the vaulted ceilings of the Carrousel du Louvre 80 exhibitors from 15 countries. These galleries, bookstores and specialist publishers selected by a committee of experts make Paris Photo a not-to-be-missed occasion arguably unique in terms of its quality of presentation.
During Paris Photo, this prestigious location will be home to a broad panorama of international photographic practice. Galleries from France, and the U.S., Hungary, Sweden, Japan, Australia and many other countries will show great classical work of the 19th and 20th century, and alongside that, the protean production of contemporary and emerging artists. This mix of genres and generations gives rise to the kind of dialogue that is part of what makes this medium so rich. That is a core value for a show that provides the opportunity for the work of young photographers to be seen by some 30,000 visitors.
Because our own initiatives are part of what makes this a special occasion, this year Paris Photo is organizing two exhibitions around the theme Fashion and Photography. Famous private collectors Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Claude Deloffre, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, Lothar Schirmer invite visitors to discover their personal vision of photography. Also focusing on fashion, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie will present work from its collection by four giants, William Klein, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn and David Seidner.
Were looking forward to seeing you in November for four days rich in new connections, pleasures and discoveries.
